A week that feels bigger

Follow the road.
Chase the light.

There is a time in Iceland when the evenings seem to go on forever. When waterfalls catch the late light, the coast opens ahead of you, and another remarkable landscape waits around the bend.

Starting on the summer solstice, the ROAM Iceland Marathon takes you around the Ring Road in seven full days of discovery. We bring together the island’s great landscapes and the smaller moments in between: coastal villages, scenic walks, quiet viewpoints, and stories shared along the way.

You bring your curiosity. We take care of the driving, guiding, and accommodation.

A guided road expedition. No running involved.

The proposed journey

Seven days.
A thousand impressions.

A Reykjavík-to-Reykjavík loop, travelling through the south, east, north, and west. The following is our proposed route, with final stops confirmed before departure.

01 · JUN 21

Into the longest day

Reykjavík → South Coast

Begin on the summer solstice. Leave the city behind for the South Coast’s waterfalls, dramatic shoreline, and the landscapes around Vík. Our first day sets the tone for a week of discovery.

02 · JUN 22

The world of ice

South Coast → Glacier country

Continue east through vast plains and glacier landscapes. Explore the scenery of the Skaftafell region, Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, and the ice-strewn black sand of Diamond Beach.

03 · JUN 23

The eastern edge

Southeast Iceland → Eastfjords

Follow a coastline of steep mountains and deep fjords. Scenic stops and small coastal communities reveal another side of the island as we make our way through the east.

04 · JUN 24

Earth in motion

East Iceland → Mývatn region

Turn towards the north and the volcanic landscapes around Lake Mývatn. Lava formations, geothermal scenery, and wide-open horizons bring Iceland’s restless geology into view.

05 · JUN 25

A northern perspective

Mývatn → Akureyri region

Discover northern scenery and the cascading water of Goðafoss before continuing towards Akureyri. A day of waterfalls, fjord views, and the character of northern Iceland.

06 · JUN 26

The road less hurried

North Iceland → Northwest

Travel west through valleys, farmland, and broad northern landscapes. This is a day for coastal perspectives, local stories, and discoveries chosen by your guide along the way.

07 · JUN 27

Full circle

West Iceland → Reykjavík

Spend our final day exploring selected highlights in West Iceland before returning to Reykjavík. Seven days of changing landscapes, shared discoveries, and one complete circle.

Proposed highlights are subject to final itinerary planning, weather, road conditions, and access. Your guide may adjust stops and their order. Optional activities and admissions will be specified in your booking proposal.

Before you set off

A few useful details.

Is this a running marathon?

No. “Marathon” describes an ambitious week of travel around Iceland. This is a guided road trip in a Sprinter, with sightseeing and walks along the way.

What pace should I expect?

Expect full days, regular stops, walking on uneven ground, and several hours of road travel on some days. This is designed for guests who enjoy an active sightseeing schedule. Contact us to discuss mobility needs and whether the journey suits you.

Where will we stay?

Accommodation along the route is included. We will share the properties, number of nights, room types, and any single-room supplement in your proposal before you commit.

When should I arrive and depart?

The proposed journey begins in Reykjavík on 21 June and returns on 27 June 2027. We recommend arriving at least one day beforehand and allowing an overnight stay after the tour. Confirm pickup and return times with ROAM before booking flights. Flights, airport transfers, and extra nights are not listed as inclusions.

Are meals and extra activities included?

Food and drinks are excluded. Any optional experiences, geothermal bathing, boat trips, or other paid activities will be identified and priced in your proposal. Photographs illustrate Iceland’s landscapes; light, weather, and scenery vary with the season.

What should I pack?

Bring waterproof outer layers, warm clothing, sturdy walking shoes, and a camera. An eye mask can help during the bright summer nights. We will confirm luggage allowances and provide practical packing guidance before departure.

What is the price, and how do I book?

Contact ROAM for pricing, current availability, room options, and the final itinerary. We will provide the payment schedule and cancellation terms before you book. An enquiry does not reserve or confirm a place.
